Continuous Validation and Authentication Technology for Online Learning

Identity verification of online learners exists as one of the key challenges to online learning today. Especially for online certification and accreditation, training organisations need to verify that the online learners who complete the learning process and receive the academic credits are the ones who have registered for the courses. Inadequate methods of identity verification affect the credibility of credentials and certification earned online. In order to prevent compromising the credibility of online accreditation, validation must be done in a constant or continuous manner. Yet at the same time, validation should not be invasive or disruptive to distract the learning process.
This presentation will examine the biometric verification technologies available and analyse the challenges of adopting these technologies for online learning validation. Dr. Liu will present a new system based on web applications with authentication ability. This system offers a continuous identity authentication service of online learners through a constant face recognition technology.
This solution is based on a high accuracy face recognition algorithm. It is contactless and needs only low level of users’ collaboration. In addition, the whole system is based on cloud computing technologies, which removes geographical and technological barriers for online learning providers.
Dr. Liu will conduct a live demonstration on how this system continuously authenticate the learners, either throughout the entire learning process, or only at certain sensitive stages of e-learning.
